The Golden Oreo Age
Yep, they are milks favorite cookie. Â And they are also Patches’ favorite cookie. Â And she’s eating a lot of them. Â She gets anything and everything she wants. Â It’s where we are at right now. Â Six months post amputation and we are thrilled with each additional minute that we get.
I’ve been doing a lot of deep thinking as I think anyone would at this stage of the game. Â She’s getting her medications and cannabis oil, eating a little bit less, sleeping a little bit more than before but still happy, comfy and all dog. Â And I take in the minutes and hold tight. Â I cry a little every day and then get on with living. Â I sometimes think “my dog is dying”. Â I thought that yesterday. Â And after I thought that I thought “EVERYONE is dying”. Â It’s true, we are all dying. Â Sometimes we just have a better idea of when. Â And giving that we’re all dying the important question is……are we living? Â My grandmom would have been 95 tomorrow March 1st. Â She packed a shit load of living in 94 Â years. Â She knew what she was doing. Â Patches is feisty like my grandmom was. Â She knows what she’s doing too. Â No one is going to live forever. Â I’m taking a page from their book because I think they got it right. Â I’m still sad…….I still cry and I’m always going to. Â But I’m making the most of the days and gradually turning to acceptance. Â I might miss those who are gone until I see them again but I will love them forever.

Glad to hear she’s holding steady and comfy and happy.
Patches is LIVING and enjoying the bliss of Oreos and non stop spoiling! It takes a billionth of a second to cross over. Up until then, Patches IS living a life full of sooooo much love and joy.
Gonna go buy a pack of Oreos tomorrow. The dogs and I shall share in a junk food feast with you and Patches!
Now go get some enjoyable snuggles with that sweet Patches!

LOL, thank you Sally. Enjoy those oreos, they are pretty dynamite. And it’s warming up outside and she has been outside on and off all day. Barking, sniffing, laying in the sun. I didn’t know if we’d get through the winter let alone to warmer days of sun. She is amazing, she really is. Still breathing easy, kissing, wanting to get petted. I’m blessed, I know I am. My son says this is bonus time and it really is.

Thanks for your post Patches journey is an inspiration in every way, she’s truly living in the moment. Jackson is coming up upon 6 months post op & like yourselves I didn’t think we’d make it this far & feel warmer weather. Jackson’s been sitting outside more & taking all of life (sounds & smells of spring) in which is something we all are learning through our furry friends. Live in the moment enjoy all that life had to offer & share in the joy & love with others.

Thank you so much for your sweet thoughts and words. I think everyone here and every dog we love is an inspiration. There can be joy in grief and love and kindness no matter how much pain we are in. Patches is amazing and she is loving life and showing me what strength really is. I’m so happy to have had this time with her and I’m so happy you have had this time with Jackson. They are teaching us invaluable lessons and we won’t be the same in a better way. Keep me posted on Jackson and please give him hugs and kisses from me and from Patches.
